Community-Based Clubs: Unique and Essential

Nestled in Webster, New York, Lakefront Soccer Club reflects the type of local initiative seen in towns across New England. With 40 travel and premier teams and a thriving recreational program serving 300 players year-round, the club is deeply rooted in its community.

This local identity fuels the club’s mission to create opportunities for young athletes while fostering connections between the club, businesses, and residents.

A Legacy of Growth and Change

Founded in the 1970s as a volunteer-led seasonal club, Lakefront Soccer Club has undergone significant transformations. In 2001, support from local businessman Bill Boulter and State Senator Mike Nozzolio resulted in the construction of an indoor turf complex, an outdoor lighted stadium field and outdoor soccer fields. In 2017, Lakefront Sports Park was opened with 9 full size soccer fields, bathrooms, concession stand, storage, equipment garage and a parking lot for over 600 cars.

This indoor facility, operates year-round at 50-60 hours weekly, boosting both training and community engagement. Additionally, the club’s outdoor field assets and exclusive rental agreements ensure robust infrastructure for growth.

Leadership in Focus

Kyle DeBrine, who became Executive Director in 2021, has amplified the club’s reputation through community outreach and innovative strategies.  From fostering relationships to promoting programs, Kyle has positioned Lakefront Soccer Club as a hub for youth sports and a community anchor.

Local Advertising and Social Media

Kyle understands the power of visibility. By advertising in local newspapers and leveraging social media platforms like “Webster NY Neighbors,” the club stays top of mind. QR codes further simplify engagement, making it easier for the community to connect with club offerings.

Business Connections and Chamber of Commerce

Joining the Webster Chamber of Commerce, Kyle deepened ties with local businesses. Serving on the board of directors, he regularly presents the club’s achievements to 200 local companies, enhancing its profile.  The club’s presence on the Chamber’s website also boosts its search engine ranking, further expanding its reach.

The Tournament That Transforms

In its 33rd year, the Lakefront Classic Showcase is a regional highlight. Drawing 300 teams over two weekends, it generates $3 million in local economic impact, according to Visit Rochester.  Even Wegmans, the prominent supermarket chain, reports its third-busiest weekend coincides with the tournament, underscoring the event’s importance. As a token of appreciation, Visit Rochester provides the club with $3,000 annually for its community contributions.

Partnerships with Town and School District

Kyle emphasizes the importance of collaboration between Lakefront Soccer Club, the town of Webster, and the local school district. As a member of the Webster Youth Sports Council, Kyle meets monthly with representatives from all youth sports organizations in the area, as well as town and school officials. These meetings provide a platform to address shared challenges, coordinate scheduling and facilities, and exchange best practices. This partnership strengthens community ties and ensures that Lakefront Soccer Club aligns with broader goals, benefiting athletes and residents alike.

Community Outreach

The club hosts the school district’s after-school daycare program and offers a free clinic for children during school breaks, creating valuable opportunities for families.  Participation in community events, like the Community Arts Day, ensures the club remains visible and engaged. Local businesses also benefit from reduced cost banner space at the indoor facility, fostering goodwill and mutual support.

The Road Ahead

While the club has made impressive strides, Kyle remains focused on future opportunities. His plans include developing corporate sponsorships and exploring naming rights for fields and facilities, opening new revenue streams while strengthening the club’s financial stability.
